How to apply the conditioner bar

Like any other ordinary conditioner, apply after shampooing your hair and apply the conditioner into all your strands. Leave it on your hair for a couple of minutes before rinsing it off thoroughly and then enjoy the feel of your refreshed locks.

Hold the bar in your hand and wipe it on your hair in a downward motion.

For long hair, try the ‘two low ponytails’ method. Part your hair in the back down the middle and pull each section over a shoulder, then swipe the bar down each section of hair.

More than one way to use a Tangie conditioner bar.

You may want to try more than one way to see what works best for you and your hair.

Difficulty holding a bar? Then turn the conditioner bar into a liquid before use.
Prefer a spray-on conditioner? Liquifying the conditioner bar then adding it to a spray bottle is for you.
Need a leave-in conditioner for deep conditioning days? Place the bar in a small amount of water, and it will go from a hard bar to a thick mouse-like consistency.

In-Shower Rinse

Swipe the bar directly onto the hair in a downward motion with the hair shaft. Let sit for a minute or two, then rinse. You can also rub the bar between your two hands, then apply the conditioner onto your hair in a downward motion. Due to the slick feel of the conditioner bar, you may not ‘feel’ like you are getting conditioner on your hands, but you are! Rub the bar and swipe your hair a few times if needed.

In-Shower Spray

Directions to turn a conditioner bar into a liquid conditioner:
Cut the bar in half 4 times, making 8 pie wedges. In a small pan, add 8 ounces of water, add one piece of conditioner bar, heat water until almost boiling, then turn off the burner. Stir occasionally until completely dissolved. It takes about 5 minutes. Cool then pour liquid into your spray bottle or pumper, it will work in both types of dispensers.

PRO TIP: For a thicker conditioner to pour into your hand, instead of spraying, add one more piece of conditioner bar to the steps listed above. Dissolve as many pieces as you like to get the consistency you prefer.

FOR BEST RESULTS: Settling will occur when you liquify the bar. Shake your spray or pumper bottle before dispensing the liquid conditioner.

Leave-In Conditioner

On damp or dry hair, apply a bit of the softened conditioner bar using your fingers and apply to hair or just tips to tame frizz. For deep conditioning, add a thick layer over all your hair, leave in for 20-30 minutes then rinse.

HOW TO SOFTEN THE BAR CONDITIONER. [just soak it in water overnight]

Place one conditioner bar inside a lidded container.
1. Use a container that is wider than the bar to accommodate the increase in bar size so you are able to easily remove it once softened, if you choose not to store it in that same container.
Fill with a few ounces of water to cover the bar, let sit for 24 hours, flipping over halfway for each side of the bar to soak up water.
The bar will plump up in size and be soft, like the texture of thick cream cheese.
The more water you use, the larger and softer the bar gets.
Drain off the water and store in a container of your choice.

After the initial soak, you can easily adjust the water to bring the bar to a softness you like best.

The bar will be a thick and soft consistency which works well for leave-in and deep conditioning purposes.

What ingredients we don’t use and why

SYNTHETIC FRAGRANCES are exempt from labeling requirements and regarded as “trade secrets”. There is no way to determine what the individual ingredients are, and may include phthalates. These have been linked with aggravation of asthma, headaches, allergic reactions and possible long term central nervous system disorders.
PARABENS Found in many cosmetics as a preservative. Suspected link between parabens and breast cancer. Be sure to avoid deodorant containing parabens since it’s applied close to the breast area, every day for many, many years.
SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE (SLS)/SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE (SLES) There are nearly 16,000 studies in the PubMed science library about the toxicity of this chemical that can be found on the SLS page on Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) website. It is present in nearly all shampoos, scalp treatments, hair color and bleaching agents, toothpastes, body washes and cleansers, make-up foundations, liquid hand soaps, and laundry detergents. Although SLS originates from coconuts, the chemical is anything but natural.
1,4-DIOXANE Any discussion of SLS/SLES must include a discussion of 1,4 dioxane because the manufacturing process of SLS/SLES results in its being contaminated with 1,4 dioxane—a known carcinogen. (NOT to be confused with Dioxin)
PROPYLENE GLYCOL Primarily used as a solvent and an aid to absorption through the skin. The main concerns are that this material may be a primary skin irritant and there are possible links to liver abnormalities and kidney damage.
TRICLOSAN Primarily added to cosmetics as an anti bacterial agent. It belongs to a class of chemicals known as chlorophenols, and is suspected of causing cancer in humans.
PHOSPHATES Phosphorous is like a fertilizer in our water system. It increases algae and aquatic weed growth, the oxygen needed for healthy fish and aquatic life is depleted.

Tangie conditioner bars are more creamier than others I have tried. I am able to fully coat my hair.
Citrus is my favorite. The smell is light and not overwhelming. Combing out my long hair is easy.

Having not used commercial hair care products for about ten years, just teas and clays, I was curious several years ago when I was going to go out traveling, about shampoo bars that could get through security. I tried numerous ones and didn’t like how dry they left my hair. SO, when I found Tangie recently (I’d had a bout of some weird thing with my scalp and had prescription stuff and needed something a bit “more”) and ordered the shampoo bar, I also got the conditioner bar to hopefully counteract the expected dryness from washing. Never used to use conditioner because my hair is oily. HOWEVER, the shampoo bars DID NOT dry my hair. Using the conditioner bar sparingly has been PERFECT on my graying locks without weighing them down! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Thank you

Been using their conditioner bar for over 8 months now and my favorite scent is Rosemary Mint and Citrus one.
Rosemary mint conditioner feels so spa like when used on the hair and has an incredible fragrance and the mint has a soothing effect on the scalp. The citrus one is feels summer like. I love citrusy fragrances and this fits perfectly in terms of fragrance and conditioning. It doesn’t make your hair feel greasy after use. And lastly I have been using these two bars alternatively for the last 8 months and they are totally value for money. Bye Bye nasty plastic bottles.

Do I need to soften or soak the conditioner bar before use or can I use it as a solid bar?

You can use it both ways. It can used as a leave-in or rinse out conditioner. There is more than one way to use a Tangie conditioner bar. 😃 Some people like the soft, creamy consistency. Others prefer to use it as a solid bar by swiping the bar over wet hair and then rinsing it out. What is behentrimonium methosulfate and why does Tangie use it in conditioner bars ?

Behentrimonium methosulfate might sound like a mouthful, but it’s actually a super gentle, plant-based emulsifier that we use in our conditioner bars. It’s derived from rapeseed (Brassica napus Linnaeus), which is a natural, non-toxic source. We totally get that some ingredients with long names can feel a little intimidating, but rest assured, we’re all about creating waste-free products without harmful chemicals or toxins. You’re in good hands with Tangie!

Here is some science of Behentrimonium Methosulfate:

It is a quaternary ammonium salt. Generally found in hair conditioners to provide anti-static properties and as a conditioning agent. DO NOT confuse Behentrimonium Methosulfate with Behentrimonium Chloride, which is toxic.

Behentrimonium Methosulfate is an example of an quaternary ammonium ingredient that contains the sulfate compound (SO42-), but due to it being a cationic surfactant, the chemical process to produce this ingredient is less irritating and creates a more neutral/stable compound. As a matter of fact, this particular ingredient has the ability to impart some great conditioning properties to the hair by increasing slip and aiding in closing the cuticle, due to its cationic nature. This is just one example of a no-no ingredient that has some beneficial attributes, when used in the right context.

Why isn't my conditioner bar lathering?

Great question! Unlike shampoos, which are made to clean and lather up with those bubbly suds, conditioners work a little differently. They’re all about smoothing, moisturizing, and hydrating your hair, so there’s no need for foam. Lather usually comes from surfactants in shampoo, which help remove dirt and oil. Conditioners, on the other hand, focus on nourishing your hair without the bubbles. So, no lather just means your conditioner is doing its job!
