How do I use a conditioner bar for my hair?

What Is Not In Our Zero Waste Conditioner Bar & Why

Synthetic Fragrances are exempt from labeling requirements and considered “trade secrets.” This means you can’t determine the individual ingredients, which may include phthalates linked to asthma, headaches, allergic reactions, and potential long-term central nervous system disorders.

Parabens are commonly found in many cosmetics as preservatives. There is a suspected link between parabens and breast cancer, so it’s essential to avoid deodorants containing them, especially since they are applied close to the breast area daily for many years.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) /Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) are prevalent in nearly all shampoos and body washes. There are nearly 16,000 studies in the PubMed science library discussing the toxicity of these chemicals. Although SLS originates from coconuts, the chemical itself is anything but natural.

1,4-Dioxane is a known carcinogen that contaminates SLS/SLES during manufacturing. This harmful substance should not be confused with Dioxin.

Propylene Glycol is primarily used as a solvent and skin absorption aid. It may cause skin irritation and has possible links to liver abnormalities and kidney damage.

Triclosan is often added to cosmetics as an antibacterial agent. It belongs to a class of chemicals known as chlorophenols and is suspected of causing cancer in humans.

Phosphates act like fertilizers in our water systems, leading to increased algae growth and depleting the oxygen needed for healthy fish and aquatic life.

Citrus is my favorite. The smell is light and not overwhelming. Combing out my long hair is easy.

Having not used commercial hair care products for about ten years, just teas and clays, I was curious several years ago when I was going to go out traveling, about shampoo bars that could get through security. I tried numerous ones and didn’t like how dry they left my hair. SO, when I found Tangie recently (I’d had a bout of some weird thing with my scalp and had prescription stuff and needed something a bit “more”) and ordered the shampoo bar, I also got the conditioner bar to hopefully counteract the expected dryness from washing. Never used to use conditioner because my hair is oily. HOWEVER, the shampoo bars DID NOT dry my hair. Using the conditioner bar sparingly has been PERFECT on my graying locks without weighing them down! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Thank you

Been using their conditioner bar for over 8 months now and my favorite scent is Rosemary Mint and Citrus one.
Rosemary mint conditioner feels so spa like when used on the hair and has an incredible fragrance and the mint has a soothing effect on the scalp. The citrus one is feels summer like. I love citrusy fragrances and this fits perfectly in terms of fragrance and conditioning. It doesn’t make your hair feel greasy after use. And lastly I have been using these two bars alternatively for the last 8 months and they are totally value for money. Bye Bye nasty plastic bottles.

On clean, wet hair, simply glide the bar down the length of your hair in a smooth, downward motion.

Can Tangie solid conditioner bar be used as a liquid conditioner?

Yes, it can be. Directions: Simply cut the bar in half 4 times to create 8 pie wedges. Afterward, add 8 ounces of water and one piece of the conditioner bar to a small pan.

Heat up the mixture until it’s almost boiling, then remove it from the heat. Stir occasionally until everything is dissolved; this usually takes about 5 minutes. Once it has cooled, pour the liquid into your spray bottle or pump for dispensing in the shower.

Do I need to soften or soak the conditioner bar before use or can I use it as a solid bar?

You can use it both ways. It can be used as a leave-in or rinse-out conditioner. There is more than one way to use a Tangie conditioner bar. Some people like the soft, creamy consistency. Others prefer to use it as a solid bar by swiping the bar over wet hair and then rinsing it out.

What is Behentrimonium Methosulfate and why does Tangie use it in conditioner bars ?

Behentrimonium methosulfate might sound like a mouthful, but it’s a super gentle, plant-based emulsifier that we use in our conditioner bars.

It’s derived from rapeseed (Brassica napus Linnaeus), which is a natural, non-toxic source. We get that some ingredients with long names can feel a little intimidating, but rest assured, we’re all about creating waste-free products without harmful chemicals or toxins. You’re in good hands with Tangie!

It is a quaternary ammonium salt. Generally found in hair conditioners to provide anti-static properties and as a conditioning agent.

DO NOT confuse Behentrimonium Methosulfate with Behentrimonium Chloride, which is toxic.

Behentrimonium Methosulfate is an example of a quaternary ammonium ingredient that contains the sulfate compound (SO42-), but due to it being a cationic surfactant, the chemical process to produce this ingredient is less irritating and creates a more neutral/stable compound. T

This particular ingredient can impart some great conditioning properties to the hair by increasing slip and aiding in closing the cuticle, due to its cationic nature. This is just one example of a no-no ingredient that has some beneficial attributes when used in the right context.

Why isn't my conditioner bar lathering?

Great question! Unlike shampoos, which are made to clean and lather up with those bubbly suds, conditioners work a little differently. They’re all about smoothing, moisturizing, and hydrating your hair, so there’s no need for foam. Lather usually comes from surfactants in shampoo, which help remove dirt and oil. Conditioners, on the other hand, focus on nourishing your hair without the bubbles. So, no lather just means your conditioner is doing its job!
