Synthetic fragrances are often exempt from labeling requirements and considered “trade secrets.” This means it’s impossible to determine the individual ingredients, which may include phthalates. These compounds have been linked to aggravating asthma, headaches, allergic reactions, and potential long-term central nervous system disorders.

Parabens are commonly found in many cosmetics as preservatives and are suspected to have a link to breast cancer. It’s advisable to avoid deodorants containing parabens, as they are applied close to the breast area daily over many years.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) / Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) have been the subject of nearly 16,000 studies in the PubMed science library regarding their toxicity. These chemicals are prevalent in shampoos, scalp treatments, hair color, bleaching agents, toothpastes, body washes, makeup foundations, liquid hand soaps, and laundry detergents. Although SLS is derived from coconuts, the end product is anything but natural.
