What Are Superfoods?

The term ‘superfoods’ is growing in popularity and with good reason! Superfoods are nutrient-rich foods considered to be particularly beneficial for health and well-being. They are loaded with antioxidants, healthy fats, fiber, and a variety of essential nutrients.

These superfoods include seaweed, bananas, berries, kale, flax seed, hemp seed, broccoli, ginseng, and spinach, but there are many more foods as well.

Superfoods are beneficial when ingested and can even be helpful when applied topically. For topical application, essential nutrients are typically extracted and made into a product that can be absorbed by the skin, like a lotion or oil.

Superfood for Hair

When used in shampoo and conditioner products, superfoods can deliver an array of benefits to your hair and scalp. Antioxidants in superfoods can help protect your hair from environmental damage like sun and pollution, and essential nutrients can nourish your hair from root to tip, making it healthier and more resilient.

Healthy fats from superfoods can moisturize your hair, giving it a glossy, vibrant shine. So, consider incorporating hair care products infused with superfoods into your routine for healthier, shinier, and stronger hair.

The best superfoods for topical hair health include: avocado, coconut oil, olive oil, banana, carrot juice, pumpkin, soy yogurt or milk, green tea, and more!

Superfood for Hair and Skin

You can even utilize the benefits of superfoods for multiple purposes!

Many superfoods are touted for their moisturizing properties which are especially helpful for dry, sensitive skin on the scalp and body. You can also expect revitalizing benefits like increased skin suppleness and elasticity, decreased wrinkles, and a general healthy glow.

In addition to hair care and skin care, some superfoods are beneficial for the entire body system including maintaining the health of bones and ligaments, muscles, blood, organs like the eyes, liver, and spleen, and more!

Eating a wide variety of these nutrient-rich foods can help you achieve optimal health and overall well-being. Therefore, make sure to include more of them in your daily diet for a healthier lifestyle.

The best superfoods for topical scalp health include: green tea, soy yogurt or milk, pumpkin, coconut oil, olive oil, avocado, oatmeal/colloidal oatmeal, lemon juice, and more!

Superfood to Prevent Hair Loss

New studies have started showing proof that nutrients and compounds that are naturally found in some foods and plants can reduce hair loss, and for some, even promote more hair growth.

Such superfoods include pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, spinach, avocado, berries, and sweet potato.

For topical applications of superfoods for hair loss, try rice water, avocado, coconut oil, ginseng, onion juice, olive oil, and green tea.

Keep in mind that in this article we are only talking about foods; there are lots of herbs like rosemary and tea tree, as well as oils you likely can’t make at home like pumpkin seed oil that is also extremely beneficial for scalp, hair, and skin health!

What Is Superfood?

Now you know what superfoods can do… but what exactly are they and why are they so super?

There isn’t a formal way to classify any food as a “superfood.” It’s actually just a marketing buzzword to get people excited about the hot food of the moment. You might remember the fad of açaí, ashwagandha, various mushrooms, seaweed, spirulina, kale… the list goes on.

Just because these foods have become a buzzword doesn’t mean they don’t have amazing nutrients and real beneficial health properties! Like everything else, foods are also subject to being fads, and cycling them every few months gives bloggers and influencers a hot new trend to write and research about that people are actively interested in in real-time.

But, these foods are still healthy and worthwhile after the glamour fades away!

So what makes a food “super”?

Foods are dubbed “super” by the health and fitness world when they are found to be nutrient-dense, contain high doses of vitamins and minerals, and are perhaps a ‘new’ food (to a Western audience). It also helps when they are a good source of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that many people lack or that are hard to come by in high amounts in other foods.

Bonus points are awarded if the food is very aesthetically pleasing.

We can use the term “superfood” to highlight the amazing health and beauty benefits of these same foods!

Overall, superfoods are powerful ingredients that can benefit your health and beauty. If you want to reap their rewards, make sure to incorporate them into your hair care routine and diet. Your hair and body will thank you for it!

We are working on making more of our Tangie products with superfood ingredients so you can easily harness the power of these foods in an easy-to-use topical form!
